Accident and DUI investigators responded to the single-vehicle crash late just before 9 p.m. Saturday

A driver is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on I-35 Saturday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

KCPD accident investigators responded alongside DUI officers to the crash site on northbound I-35 near Chouteau Trafficway just before 9 p.m.

At the scene, police say an investigation revealed that a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north at a high rate of speed.

Just north of Chouteau, the Chevrolet went off the road to the left, traveling into the center median. The Chevrolet continued south through the median, rotating sideways and then overturning.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver reportedly remains in critical condition and an investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

North I-35 was completely closed to all traffic at Chouteau for approximately an hour and a half. The highway has since been reopened.
